Soilo Leaf wetness sensor with leaf-shaped sensing surface

The problem

Disease waits for the wet hours.

Spray calendars treat every week the same. In reality, risk comes in bursts, set by how long the canopy stays wet. Without a measurement, growers either spray too often to be safe, or find out after symptoms appear.

What Soilo Leaf does

Leaf measures the wet hours on the crop surface, so the timing of scouting and protection can follow real conditions.

Many fungal and bacterial diseases need a film of water on the leaf. How long a leaf stays wet, and at what temperature, is often more informative than rainfall or humidity alone.

Soilo Leaf is a sensor with a leaf-shaped sensing surface that sits in the canopy and reports whether the leaf surface is wet, together with temperature. Because it monitors continuously, you see the wet periods you would never witness: dew overnight, fog at dawn, or the hours after irrigation.

Leaf reports conditions; it does not diagnose disease. Its role is to feed disease-risk assessment, so spraying and scouting can be timed to the weather the crop actually experienced.

Measures leaf wetness and temperature at the sensor location. Disease risk is assessed by software from these readings; the sensor itself does not detect disease.

How it works

5 steps from Soilo Leaf to a decision

  1. 1

    Mount in the canopy

Place the leaf sensor at crop height where leaves stay wettest.

  2. 2

    It senses

The leaf-shaped surface detects moisture; temperature is recorded alongside.

  3. 3

    Readings are logged

Wet and dry periods are recorded continuously, day and night.

  4. 4

    Soilo assesses risk

Wetness duration and temperature feed disease-risk assessment.

  5. 5

    You time the response

Scout, spray or hold, based on the conditions that actually occurred.

Key capabilities

What makes Soilo Leaf useful

Continuous canopy monitoring

Captures the overnight and early-morning wet periods you cannot watch.

Wetness plus temperature

The two ingredients most disease models need.

Disease-risk context

Supports risk assessment through the Soilo platform.

Field-mounted design

Built to be fixed in place with the supplied hardware.

What it measures

  • Leaf wetness (wet or dry surface)
  • Temperature

Where it is used

  • Orchards and vineyards
  • Vegetables and horticulture
  • Greenhouses and nurseries
  • Plantations
  • Disease-risk monitoring programmes
  • Research trials
Who it is for

Who should buy Soilo Leaf

Growers of disease-prone crops

To time protection to the actual wet period.

Agronomists and crop consultants

To support advisories with measured canopy conditions.

Greenhouse operators

To see where ventilation or irrigation timing leaves leaves wet too long.

Research institutions

To log canopy wetness for disease studies.

How it helps

  • Better awareness of when the disease risk is highest.
  • Spray and scouting timing based on measured conditions.
  • Evidence for why a block needed, or did not need, protection.
  • Insight into how irrigation timing affects leaf wetness.

Key benefits

  • Turn invisible wet hours into data.
  • Reduce guesswork in disease-risk timing.
  • Complements Climate with leaf-level conditions.
  • Gives consultants and growers a shared factual basis.

How people use it

A greenhouse operator sees that leaves stay wet long after sunrise and adjusts ventilation.

A consultant compares two blocks to explain why one needed more attention.
