The problem

Light is invisible until you measure it.

Eyes and phone apps are poor judges of the light plants use. Growers under- or over-light crops, place fixtures by habit, or fail to notice that a corner of the house is shaded.

Without numbers, lighting changes cannot be compared before and after.

What Soilo Light does

Light gives you a measurement of PAR and PPFD at the canopy, so lighting and layout decisions rest on numbers.

Plants do not use all light equally. Photosynthesis responds to a specific band of light, called PAR, and what matters for growth is how much of it arrives at the canopy, measured as PPFD.

Soilo Light is a hand-held meter for that measurement. It is meant for the places where light is a real constraint or a real cost: greenhouses with supplemental lighting, vertical or controlled-environment farms, shaded crops, and orchards where canopy shading changes from row to row.

It comes in a protective carry case with a wrist strap and charging cable, so it can be taken from bench to bench, house to house, and field to field.

Measures photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) and photon flux (PPFD) at the point where the meter is held. It measures; it does not control lights.

How it works

5 steps from Soilo Light to a decision

  1. 1

    Position the sensor

Hold the meter level at canopy height, facing the light source.

  2. 2

    Read

The meter measures the light available to the crop at that point.

  3. 3

    Map

Repeat across rows, benches or zones to find bright and dim spots.

  4. 4

    Compare

Check readings against what the crop needs and what you had before.

  5. 5

    Adjust

Move fixtures, change schedules or prune shading, then measure again.

Key capabilities

What makes Soilo Light useful

Crop-relevant light

Measures the part of the spectrum that drives photosynthesis.

Portable

Carry case, wrist strap and charging cable included.

Fast surveys

Walk a house and measure zone by zone in minutes.

Before-and-after checks

Quantify the effect of a lighting or layout change.

What it measures

  • Photosynthetically active radiation (PAR)
  • Photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD)

Where it is used

  • Greenhouses
  • Vertical farms and controlled-environment agriculture
  • Hydroponic and nursery operations
  • Orchards and shaded crops
  • Lighting design and audits
  • Research
Who it is for

Who should buy Soilo Light

Greenhouse and indoor-farm operators

To set and verify lighting for each crop and zone.

Horticulture consultants and lighting designers

To audit installations with real numbers.

Researchers and universities

To record light conditions in experiments.

Orchard and plantation managers

To understand canopy shading.

How it helps

  • Better understanding of the light actually available to the crop.
  • Lighting placement and scheduling based on measurement.
  • Evidence of uneven light across a house or field.
  • A way to check whether a lighting investment is delivering.

Key benefits

  • Numbers instead of guesses about light.
  • Find shaded or over-lit zones quickly.
  • Verify supplier lighting claims on site.
  • Rugged and portable for daily rounds.

How people use it

A lettuce grower surveys a hydroponic house and finds the edge benches receive noticeably less light than the centre.

A lighting consultant measures before and after a fixture change to show the improvement.

An orchard manager compares light under different canopy conditions.
